Culture & Education
The Consulate General of Japan in Portland understands that there will be concerns among students, scholars and other visitors to Japan about the current state affairs in the areas affected by the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, particularly in regard to the release of radiation into the environment. The Government of Japan is exerting its utmost efforts towards the recovery and rebuilding of the affected areas. We are working in close coordination with the related parties, as well as international organizations and specialist agencies from the United States and countries around the globe, to respond to the trouble facing Japan's nuclear facilities (Fukushima Daiichi and Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Plants) as a result of the earthquake and tsunami. The Government of Japan will continue with the prompt sharing of information and asks for a calm and fact-based response to changes in the situation and new developments.
