Welcome to the Web site of the Consular Offfice of Japan in Portland.

The relationship between Japan and the states of Oregon and Idaho continues to be a broad and favorable one, based on mutual exchanges in the fields of political, economic and cultural benefit. It is our goal to continue, support and develop this relationship, and through the daily activities of this office, to be a helpful presence to the Japanese and local communities. Furthermore, this office aims to go beyond its fundamental political and economic duties and devote itself to providing services and information to deepen the understanding of Japan in the region. Should you have any comments or questions concerning the activities of this office, please do not hesitate to contact us at cojportland (at) se.mofa.go.jp.

The Consulate General of Japan in Portland changed its name to the Consular Office of Japan in Portland effective January 1st, 2013, as a result of the change in its treatment under a law on Japanese government organizations due to the financial situations of the Japanese government.
Considering the importance of Oregon and Idaho to Japan, however, the Japanese government maintains its office in Portland and stations a Consul General and Consuls to perform all their duties as before. We will exert our best efforts throughout the transition.
