Conferral of the Order of the Rising Sun and Celebration of Mr. Mr. Adolf Hertrich

On Friday, January 24, 2025, our office held a ceremony at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland to celebrate the awarding of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette to Mr. Adolf Hertrich. Over many decades, Mr. Hertrich has contributed to the promotion of international exchanges and mutual understanding between the two countries for many years.
Through the success of his professional ventures, civic involvement, and charitable giving of Mr. Hertrich has supported international business, people-to-people exchanges, Japanese language education, and mutual understanding between Japan and the United States. Mr. Hertrich served as a board member of the Japan-America Society of Oregon for nearly 30 years, including as president from 1995 to 1997. In particular, he devoted himself to building connections between Oregon and Toyama Prefecture, resulting in the establishment of a friendship agreement between the two prefectures in 1991. He also strengthened business ties between Japan and the Northwest and established scholarships for Japanese studies at two universities in Oregon.
The award ceremony was attended by Oregon Japan-America Society officers, university officials, family, and friends who congratulated Hertrich on his award.
