John Akira Kodachi, Legal Advisor of the Consular Office of Japan in Portland to Receive 2025 Spring Commendation from the Government of Japan

On April 29, 2025 (Japan Standard Time), the Japanese government announced the recipients of the 2025 Spring Commendation, among them was John Akira Kodachi of Portland, Oregon.
Mr. Kodachi will receive The Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon this year in recognition of his contributions to the activities of Japanese overseas diplomatic missions.

Mr. Kodachi has served as legal advisor to the Consular Office of Japan in Portland from 2001 to the present. In that role, he provides legal advice on international law, contracts, and employment regulations with respect to the operations of the Consulate General's office and protecting the interests of the Consular Office and its employees.
Mr. Kodachi has also contributed to friendship between the U.S. and Japan as Chair and Board Member of the Japan-America Society of Oregon from 2002 to 2019. In particular, he was instrumental in establishing the Women's Leadership Council, now one of the organization's major activities, with the goal of strengthening the position of Japanese and Japanese American women in the U.S. workplace.
Mr. Kodachi also contributed to the protection of the civil rights and welfare of the Japanese American community as President and Board Member of the Portland Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League for 12 years from 2002 to 2014.
