Recruitment of Local Staff - Economic Section at the Consular Office of Japan in Portland

The Consular Office in Portland is currently seeking to hire a locally employed staff member to serve as a clerk in the economic section. Interested candidates should submit the necessary documents to the email address below by Friday, October 31, 2025 (documents must be received by this date).
【Number of Positions Available】
1 person
【Main Duites(Tentative)】
・Collection and analysis of political and economic affairs for the Oregon/Idaho area.
・Contact and coordination regarding appointments between our office staff and local administrative agencies and companies.(Attendance as needed.)
・Coordination/assistance related to economic relations events organized by the Consular Office.(Duties may include hosting events.)
・Assistance of JET program-related work.
・Support of other office tasks as requested.
【Working Conditions】
・Expected start date : November, 2025
・Working hours:Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (30-minute lunch break). Note: Early morning, late night, and weekend/holiday overtime work may be occasionally required depending on duties.
・Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, and official holidays designated by the Consular Office.
・Annual Salary:Determined based on experience.(To be decided through consultation after offer of employment is made.)
・Paid leave: 20 days per year (in principle). First year: 5 days. Second year: prorated based on starting date until December 31. From the third year: full 20 days granted on January 1.
・Insurance: Support provided for enrollment in optional insurance plans (workman’s compensation, medical, dental). Employee copayment required.
【Qualifications】
・Must be a U.S. citizen or Green Card holder. (Visa support is not provided.)
・Must be available to work during the designated hours, including outside normal office hours, holidays, and weekends.
・Must have basic computer skills. (e.g., email, Excel, Word)
・Must be able to work in English (Japanese language skills are preferred).
・Must be in good physical and mental health.
・Should demonstrate an understanding of Japanese culture, good communication skills with consular staff and external parties, and the ability to work cooperatively as a team member.
【Selection Process】
Only those who pass the initial document screening will be contacted by our office for further evaluation. Candidates will be contacted at the contact information listed on their resume. Those who pass the document screening will be selected for an interview. Selection for employment at a later date will occur after all interviews have been conducted.
